Specialist Sessions

Cyber Security and Protection of Personal Data

Date: Wednesday 11 October

Time: 13:40 - 14:25

With data breaches, cyber attacks, phishing, fraud and more making headlines in 2017, this session will examine what the rise in internet crime means for the future of the travel industry.  It will explore what travel companies can do protect their business and customers from attacks as well as keep their organisation GDPR compliant.
Moderated by ABTA Chief Executive Mark Tanzer, David Trunkfield, Partner at PwC, will set the scene for the session, looking at the type, frequency and origins of cyber crime.  Claire Mulligan, Partner at international law firm Kennedys, will then detail the legal responsibilities companies have with regards to the protection of sensitive information and GDPR before Vito Sepe, Senior Account Director at Arnold Fisher, the specialist insurance broker to the travel industry, provides an overview of the key areas of expense if attacked and the types of insurance cover available.
Mark Tanzer will offer a personal view on the subject, drawing on his experience of the cyber attack on the ABTA website in March, to offer first-hand advice on what organisations need to consider by way of support for their customers, clients or members.  The theme will be further explored during a subsequent panel debate and Q&A.
